Yesterday, in Manhattan, was a meeting regarding the development of three new TV series, one of them a possible spinoff of SF:TLY to have at the ready just in the possible event that the series itself doesn't make the transition into another season, a TV series or a feature film. One of the things agreed upon was to set up a meeting between people already involved in this sitcom proposal, which is based on Sam Reich's whole "Later Years" concept and focusing mainly on four of your favorite characters and their continuing misadventures, and the TLY production team at College Humor.
I have already been called upon to help develop and write for a few other TV series for the same production company and several of us thought that this would be a good opportunity to create a "safety valve" for our hit Street Fighter series as a back-up plan just in case the original series turns out to be decidedly at an end.
It just wouldn't seem right for fans to just start really enjoying the fact that their favorite characters from their youth have returned for good only to have the series over this soon and with so many unanswered questions, not to mention the vast array of unexplored comic possibilities.
I hope you'll bear with us as, just like the staff at College Humor, we are developing other shows at the same time. As soon as the pilot for another new sitcom is finished this coming week, we plan to get to work on the spinoff concept. Really funny ideas were flying yesterday and there were a lot of laughs at the meeting which was also attended by TJ Glenn, Jose Lara and even Joe Franklin (the meeting took place in Joe's office).
Sean Krishnan's involvement as a regular in the spinoff (the plan was to have Zangief rooming with Dhalsim, his wife and his daughter) is still in question although he would have no problem appearing as a guest in various episodes so the dynamic has changed to that of Zangief and Vega becoming tight buddies along with at least two other regular characters to round out the group. Other original cast members would, of course, be making appearances on the series throughout.
I'll have more news for you within the next few days so stay with us.
Street Fighter lives!
