At this very moment I await word from our Project Manager about the day and time of our final meeting in Brooklyn. Our investors will be present along with our Location Manager, Director, Cinematographer, First Assistant Director, Casting Director, Second Unit Director and at least one of our Associate Producers.

This meeting will finalize the restructuring of our business plan, confirm the parameters of our licensing agreement proposal to Capcom, establish our shot list for our camera crew and map out, finally, our shooting schedule.

It's been mainly the legal and financial aspects of pre-production that had been holding us up until now. Soon it will be the performance schedules of our cast. However, we're expecting Raw (Balrog) to be returning home from Egypt soon (he's been doing another movie, this time with Cuba Gooding, Jr.) and Claudio (Sagat) to be coming home from Brazil. Ana (Chun Li) and Luis (M. Bison) are still in L.A. and will also be rejoining us and TJ (Vega) and Clarence Lim (Young Ryu) are still in Canada. Lev (Ken), Nick (Guile) and I (Zangief) are in New York along with, I believe, Sean Watson (Young Zangief) and Kevin (Ryu and E. Honda) is in Philadelphia where Raw also lives.

Can't wait to finally chuck the business suit (okay, the business suit mindset; I know you're not buying the image, LOL) and squeeze back into the tiny red brief for Zangief's next scheduled big fight. I so much prefer the creative end of things to the administrative crap.

Hang tight. We're working behind the scenes every single day on the most boring aspects of our series which, nevertheless, will light the fuse for an explosion of creativity leading to all of our impending action, adventure and comedy.

LOL! Hey, I very nearly lost my job as the present day Zangief along with most of the cast their famous roles, too. Had we surrendered this to another production company who'd made us an offer last fall, we'd probably be in production by now but, for the most part, replaced by more A-list TV actors. We'd made a pact early on because we knew this day would come: "It's all of us or none of us". I was even told that Sean (Young Zangief), would not be suitable (and he looks like a bigger, younger version of me) and they hadn't even seen him yet!

I remember reading that Capcom really liked The Later Years and offered to help out, how helpful are they being this time around?

Is that final meeting you refer to, the final meeting of Production? or is it the final meeting of Post-Production?

To answer both of your questions, the meeting in Brooklyn is expected to be the last before pre-production begins. There will be other meetings during pre-pro, of course, in particular the one with our art department and set construction crew in Asbury Park, New Jersey. Another will be with our three special effects teams.

Pre-production will entail many things happening simultaneously such as unleashing our attorneys to hammer out individual contracts, hiring our payroll department and auditor, set construction, special effects consultations for everything from CGI to makeup (for characters such as Blanka, Akuma and Seth, for instance) to pyrotechnics (some of the explosions will have to be authentic). Then there's insurance and completion bond, table reads for the cast and fight training and fight choreography for all of us who are Street Fighters as well as stunt coordination for our team of stunt actors and doubles. Now all of that will have to happen in just a few weeks and will be covered by our Second Unit for a behind-the-scenes documentary about the making of the pilot episode and for some visual updates you'll be seeing on YouTube, LiveLeak, Vimeo and other places like Game Trailers, for instance.

Then production begins and that's when things start to get really exciting... mainly because that's when I'll find food on the set!

Capcom's licensing division are the folks with whom we are now dealing and they were, for the most part, unaware of just how much love and support we were getting from the company itself and admit to only having seen a couple of episodes of "Later Years" during our second season (they were under the impression that we were a fan film before we set them straight). They and their legal department seem to act almost as a separate arm of the company itself which is quite normal for a corporate entity of its size. However, I can tell that they really want to see us succeed and we're doing everything we can to to make everybody happy at Capcom. I like the way they respect the desires of their fans and approve of our story rather than the way other companies look only to the "untapped market" and ignore the fans altogether. I think the makers of the "Legend of Chun Li" film may already be regretting their public statement about their disinterest in marketing their movie to SF fans and their intent to, instead, focus only on "people who have never even heard of Street Fighter". Lately they seem to be reaching out to fans in order to explain why they've made so many changes to the story, the characters' backgrounds and the looks of the characters themselves (even though LOC-L is a period piece, you won't be seeing any of the original costumes except for Chun Li when she finally becomes a Street Fighter). I think they're beginning to learn, as we on "Later Years" did, that Street Fighter fans will not be ignored and that they, like fans of Star Trek, are sticklers for "getting it right".

Did I just go off on another tangent?

Anywho, Capcom's licensing division is comprised of some really nice people and it's gonna be just as much fun to work with them.

Production entails ten non-consecutive shooting days with "weather days" thrown in. This will be followed immediately by post production and that's also when the composers work closely with the editors both before and during the time that the musicians go into the recording studios to create the score. As a little piece of trivia, most of the drums and percussion on the tracks will be performed by yours truly.

Wow, That's cool that you did the drums. Also, thanks for mentioning that Akuma will be in it because up until now, I had NO idea. If it wasn't mentioned earlier, thanks for the spoiler!

So shooting will only take ten days? How many hours in a day are we talking about? Also, will mostly everything be shot in New York or will anything be done in Canada to save on taxes?

Also, who will the guest characters be and who will the main characters be? For instance, I read that Dhalsim would be making guest appearances. Anybody else who will not be considered 'full time cast' and just do Cameos?

Norinaga's right, LOL! Can't give too much away right now. There will be quite a few shockers  throughout the first season and some really hilarious moments. I can tell you that, in addition to Sean Krishnan making guest appearances as Dhalsim, we're also hoping to eventually lure Alex Finch back as Blanka. These really won't be cameos, though, but genuine guest starring appearances worked heavily into the stories. There are other surprises which I'd love to share but will have to restrain myself from doing right now.

Because we get a 30% tax incentive from the Mayor's Office if we shoot at least 75% of the show in Mike Bloomberg's town, we will be shooting mainly in New York City. Also, that's where the original hit series was shot. The Mayor of Union City, New Jersey, is also a friend of mine (he's now also New Jersey's State Senator, Brian Stack) and so we'll be shooting in three areas of Union City as well with one stop in Freehold which we'll be transforming into Moscow.

The current Street Fighter series, "Zangief Chronicles", is shot in Minneapolis, I recently learned. I'm guessing that they probably get a similar deal from their city.

Most shooting days are set at eight hours but we know that probably most will go into serious overtime, especially the crime scene in the restaurant. The Reunion Tournament on SF:TLY went from 7:00 AM until midnight and still couldn't be completed. Since the show was up for cancellation, CHTV, for the first time, did not allow us another shooting day. That's why so many things were missing from our final episode and so many plot devices went unresolved. Of course, that's where we come in.

Actually, it was never even scheduled to be ten until College Humor told us we'd have to end the series. That would have made it twelve but here's what happened:

Because Episode 2 was thought to be a somewhat weaker episode, Episodes 3 and 4 were edited together and turned into Episode 3. It was supposed to have ended with Vega telling Dhalsim and Zangief that he can show them where E. Honda is. Episode 4 was to have begun with the establishing shot of the hospital parking lot but instead became the start of the second half of Episode 3. Then we went on an eight month hiatus so that Sam could honor his contract with CHTV and do other sketches for them while also doing work for his own Dutch West company. When the '07-08 season finally premiered with Episode 4, it seemed rather anticlimactic an episode given that the fans had waited so long for our return. Sam decided to make up for that by taking Episodes 5 and 6 and combining them into Episode 5. Made for a much more exciting episode and one of my favorites besides.

It was only because of CHTV's decision to cancel the series that they announced that it would be a 10 episode series altogether. The cast and I had to find that out by reading College Humor's official announcement to the world. I was almost certain it was some sort of mistake until it was confirmed by Sam Reich. At the time I couldn't understand why College Humor would end our series just when we'd finally returned and at the height of our popularity. We were all really disappointed

When we began shooting the series in September of 2006, Sam had plans to run with the series indefinitely or at least for as long as it would be popular. I remember that distinctly because I also remember thinking that this is a job and a role that I would have no trouble doing indefinitely myself. I was already falling in love with Zangief.
