I think that was just Sam's way of getting the Sam Goody joke to work. Besides, they can never stop the manufacture of videotape altogether as it always outlasts aluminum (DVD). Think about it; the Jack Ruby shooting shown on videotape (not the Kinescope version) looks like it was shot yesterday! Videotape lasts damn near forever! Aluminum degrades over time.
These days videotape is the preferred format mainly for people who want to have, keep and preserve their video collection for a lifetime.
That's very interesting. I didn't know that. I always thought it was the other way around. Several of my old VHS recordings have degraded over the last fifteen years. I had assumed it was magnetic degradation or corruption, or something. Maybe I just didn't store them well enough.

Anyway, as strange as I thought it was to see Ryu's videos on VHS, I have to admit it did give the commercial a, well, classic feel.
