Back in March (or was it late February?) I appeared in the new Ray-Ban commercial for their "Never Hide" campaign. At my screen test I was told by Writer/Director Jeff Labbe, "I'm familiar with your work as Drummer Bear. We love bears around here". I kinda got the feeling I'd landed the job before the camera started rolling.
Now, these days, the older I get the younger and younger are the people for whom I work. Today, so many of these talented young producers, writers and directors, all young enough to be my own kids, are Street Fighter II fans from way back and have such a sense of reverence for our series that they never make me shave the Mohawk for my assignments. In fact, the only hatless public appearance I made recently that is not connected to Street Fighter is on this past June's cover of Creativity magazine with Zangief's Mohawk in full evidence. Sacha Waldman is the photographer.
So, for any of you who have seen me around on TV, in print and so on, I always seem to be wearing hats lately.
Anyway, I do a cameo near the end of the piece. I'm the only bear in the commercial so look for the naked bear fixing his car, Zangief's classic Mohawk hidden beneath a wool cap.
The commercial appeared to high acclaim at the Cannes Film Festival in France this year.
